βIt was May 2013, and my wife and were in Bimini, very near where Hemingway described the white sands and turquoise-to-purple colors of the Gulf Stream in the opening lines of "Islands in the Stream." I could see a gradation of the colors of the ocean but was looking for the ideal foreground object for contrast and perspective...something to complete the scene. This palm frond cooperated. It's a photograph (Nikon D-7100, 18-135mm f45 lens), but many people who see it in our living room think it's a painting.β - Viani
